Some thoughts on September’s Sunday social rides…
Sunday 1st: Something from a couple of years ago… I can’t actually remember riding this one, but it looks interesting. I’ll check out the detail on Google maps before Sunday and make sure it’s not too adventurous in terms of road surface! https://ridewithgps.com/routes/17722065
Sunday 8th: This is the Methlick Junior Cycle Challenge, so hopefully lots of club members will be busy with that. More details here:
https://methlick.wixsite.com/cyclechallenge/junior-challengeFor the rest of September, your suggestions and inputs on routes are (as ever) more then welcome! Let me know if you have any specific ideas or requests and I’ll update with further posts!

A few people have said that the ridewithgps.com website needs a paid membership to download the GPX or FIT files for routes. While this is true if you use the ridewithgps app or download direct from your phone, using a PC means you don’t need a paid membership to download the files. For many of us, a PC is probably the best way to get the routes onto a Garmin device anyway…

So, Komoot seems to be a bit of fail on the route sharing, requiring you to create an account to download anywhere. At least RidewithGPS.com lets you download on a PC without an account.
If you’re hoping to download direct to a phone and transfer wirelessly to a Garmin (or Wahoo, or whatever), then I’m afraid that seems to be functionality reserved for paid accounts only…

Something for Sept 8th (for those not heading for the Methlick Junior Cycle Challenge!):
https://www.komoot.com/tour/92229412?ref=wtdAlso, I did this route on Komoot to see if it’s any more popular / easier to download that ridewithgps.com – let me know how you get on!

The sunny weather helped, but I’m happy to report that this route worked particularly well. There is one teeny where the tarmac was particularly badly broken up and a respectable amount of vegetation now occupies the centre of the road… But it’s very, very pretty. If this is too scary / gnarly, you can avoid it… Instead of turning left at 19.k on the planned route, head straight on, taking the next left after a couple of hundred meters. Follow that road up the hill until you rejoin the route. Pause to look admiringly to your left at the fabulously pretty road you’re just missed!

Something for this Sunday (29th)…

Note that Tarves and OldMeldrum based rides can enjoy a slightly later start as those heading off from Ellon could hope to be heading through Tarves just before 09:00 and OldMeldrum shortly after that. You’re advised to allow time for faffing about at each location!
