Ythan Update – May 24th

There’s been quite a lot going on in recent weeks… In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, we’ve had the OVO Energy Tour Series in Aberdeen, the Grampian Grand Prix youth races at Alford and our own Confined TT series has continued to attract record numbers of Ythanites to the B9000. The best place to real all about those things is Pauline’s Press Release! Stick around here for more news on what there is to look forward to…

Bob Soutar TT: With such a strong turnout for the Confined TTs, there should be plenty of interest in entries for the Bob Soutar TT on Wednesday June 5th. Organised by Carol, you can enter through BC here. The Bob Soutar will run on the same B9000 course as our confined series and will be familiar territory for Ythanites! So lets see plenty of Ythan blue out there on the road! And, if you’re not riding it, @cyclechic would be grateful for any offers of assistance with marshaling, time keeping, managing teas & coffee, etc – let her know if you can get involved.

Website Update: There are a couple of new things on the website. The Confined TT results from April 16th are now on the Results page. Although we don’t have a points total for everyone yet (it’s coming), we’re setting new standards for getting Confined results published! The eagle-eyed amongst you may also have noticed a new addition to the menu on the site – Forums! The forums are a more traditional set of tools for us to communicate and share on-line and will happily work alongside the existing Groups. Don’t wait for someone else to start using them – get stuck in and use the tools! Although the Groups tools don’t seem to have caught on, I’ve left them active on the site – it might just be a case of finding the right use case for them (possibly setting up ad hoc groups for specific events?). Lastly, the image galleries are proving to be tricky to set up. However, the latest WordPress release includes gallery tools that seem to work pretty well. They just leave the prospect of managing hundreds of images in a Medial Library with no folders or categories for organisation… Sometimes it seems that, behind every solution, is another problem!

A944: Do you use the cycle path running alongside the A944? Are you less than satisfied with the facility? Got any favourite bits? My picks would be the four pedestrian crossings to get across all the junctions at the bypass. And the bit near the petrol station where you’re supposed to dismount. Grampian Cycle Partnership are offering the change to make your voice heard. GCP will host a meeting to look at the problems being experienced on the route and set up a project group to help develop practical solutions from initial ideas to something that can become a reality. You’re requested to “bring a positive attitude, an open mind and a pencil and paper“! June 3rd at Adventure Aberdeen.
