Fiona travelled to Cheshire with her pals, Jay Burgess (Sandy Wallace Cycles) and Gemma Neill (Pedal Power) to contest the Cheshire Classic on some testing, hilly roads for round 2 of the British Women's Series Road Races.

One of the strongest women's fields possible for a domestic race, short of the British Road Race Champs perhaps, was assembled for this event and was eventually won by Karla Boddy (MG Maxi-Fuel).

Gemma Neill won the combativity prize for a magnificent solo endevour when she gained up to 55 seconds on the field but was reeled in by a nervous bunch. Crashes ensured some desparate chasing back into the mix, Fiona having been caught behind a crash at one point, expended a fair bit of energy getting back in. She reported back that she held her own though and was sitting in about 6th place in the bunch as they hit the bottom of the final sharp climb to the finsh but just ran out of juice, having 'spent all her pennies' fighting for position and getting involved in the unsuccessful breaks which marked much of the race.

Eventually Fiona finished 37th, so obvioulsy got swamped in the uphill bunch gallop to the line but she was happy to have been in the mix at the head of the race all the way to the last few hundered yards.

Some great performances by the Scottish Lassies , Charline Joiner and Kayleigh Brogan getting in the top 10, Laura Murray showing well in the final gallop and Jay Burgess and Gemma Neill more than holding their own. Louise Borthwick from Edinburgh RC continues to impress, building on her success as a youth, racing at Cyclefest and Ellon Crit as she developed into a very handy young racer.
