There was a re-shuffle in tandem pairings for the 2nd round of the UCI World Cup in Spain, after Fiona and Lora's silver medal at the TT in Italy. This was a planned re-shuffle though as Corinne Hall was going to pilot Lora Turnham and Fiona to pilot new-comer Rhiannon Henry, riding her 1st ever full international event.

In the TT Corinne and Lora took gold with a clear victory, which was perhaps expected given that Lora has won on that course before with different pilots. 2nd were Canada and Ireland 3rd. Fiona and Rhiannon were 4th about 10 seconds off the podium which was an excellent performance for a 1st hit out at world level time trialling as a pairing.

The road race followed and again with Lora's top form at the moment, she and Corinne, who is an elite level road racer in her own right, had to be considred as strong contenders for the win. As the race developed there was a break of about 6 tandems who got clear after some early attacks by Fiona and Rhiannon, which had come to nothing. They missed the move however and had to sit in and await the outcome from the potentially race winning move.

Corrine and Lora managed to gap the breakaway as they approached the finish line to take a fine win and the World Cup double, meaning the overall World Cup lead.

Fiona and Rhiannon outsprinted the the remaining chasing pack to take 7th, which, again showed some real potential for Rhiannon and overall the GB tandems, both with Ythan involvement now, showed they are ready to take on the world.

Selection for the Road World Championships takes place this week and it seems likely that Corrine and Lora will be paired up to ride in Canada, with Fiona and Rhiannon either in a supporting role or staying home to work on a block of training for Rhiannon and Fiona as a partnership. Either way it looks like we have potential World Champion credentials in the club, again. Exciting times.
