Etape Caledonia 2012

Off to a Sportive event? 'Racing' a charity event or just going somewhere nice with your bike?

I didn't get in this year for Etape Caledonia, but I've signed up (under the code Ythan CC) for the Kinross Sportive (Black Route - 87 miles). Apparantly the 700 places sold out in 60 hours of it opening. It is only in its second year. I think I paid £25 for entry. Looking at the entry list there are not many people from NE Scotland doing it, mainly from central belt, fife and perth area. Interestly, there are a lot of triathletes entered, judging by their club affliation.

Didn't they tell you that you have to do the course in a sleeveless vest and speedos to qualify for a time Dave?

Well, it's been a long time since I did 81 miles but in an effort to get 'back on the bike' I've entered the Etape - although new to the club I know one or two faces but hopefully will meet a feww more over the coming months.

Bistro No1 - Smack bang in the middle of Pitlochry sells great food at a reasonable price, and you can usually get a table pretty easily. It's relatively quiet with no loud music so good for a sociable pre-event event.

If you want to get sloshed you're only a stone throw from the pub and if your performance is affected you can always blame the drink.

Good luck to all of you on the day - hope you have a great day in the sun :D

By time you read this..belated good luck to all in Etape, first year I've missed as a planned year out for other stuff but have bike here in France to do some sight seeing including Ventoux on Wednesday with some expats, should be interesting with about 200 miles total in legs for 2012..Is the weather bad?? ;)

Fairly brutal weather today and my time was well down on what it was two years ago  . Well done to Lee for a fantastic time. My legs began to give out at 65 miles, just when Bob caught me and then James who stopped for a chat before riding away from me like I was standing still (I probably was).

Just as I was heading back to the Hotel I saw Paul cross the line with the biggest grin.

think I might do some more of this stuff.
