Etape Caledonia 2012

Postby Colin A » Fri Sep 16, 2011 9:32 am

I see entries are now being taken for next years Etape caledonia on the 13th of May. I have entered and have put down the team name as Ythan CC. If you want to go along as a group then put down the same name.

It's an expensive ride though £61 for the privalage of riding on closed roads.

Whilst this is for a good cause, I think the entry fee is an outrage. I wonder how much money actually goes to the charity itself.

Never done this event before but have heard that people like it (just not the locals!!), the closed roads must be good to ride on in a Scottish event but still can't justify in my mind paying the cash for that.

I think it may only be open to those that have preregistered. I think it opens up to everyone in the next day or so. Keep your eyes open.

pre registered for it but agree with Andy that it's a bit steep.

rode many events on the continent and never paid anywhere near that sort of money for well organised, fed at every stop events; even one that covered near 300km.

Will think about it over the weekend.......

Guilty,
:?
Now i'm off to put my name down for a round of golf on Donald's coarse at Mennie for £200 (I think I get a discount for being local)

There are no pockets in a shroud, and I don't spend it, the kids will get their mucky paws on it all

Well that's me signed up as well. The Etape Caledonia this year was my introduction to cycling.

I signed up for it, and then I said on a cycling website that I had never done any cycling with other people. They told me that turning up for an event of this size without having done any group riding was a bad idea and that I should join a club and try some of the clubruns. I emailed Colin - and went to a clubrun the week before the event- I think there were three of us! The following week I found myself with about 6000 other people on bikes. I'm sure that clubrun made all the difference!

Anyway I've signed up with Ythan CC as a code and for a sub 4 hour time - though that could be a tremendously big ask. I did 4 hrs 22 this year.
