Ullapool Sportive - Saturday 25th September 2010

Ullapool Mor: 130 miles through Stunning Scenery from the UK's most northerly sportive
Ullapool Beag: 65 miles of the sweetest riding in Scotland.

Just had it confirmed (from a bloke in the pub) that the weather will be blue skies with no wind 8-)

There are a couple of hardy souls confirmed their intentions to enter one of the easiest sporting events Scotland has to offer, yes it maybe 130 miles but half of that’s downhill. ;)

If you don’t fancy the 130 miler there’s the 65 which I have been told is by far the most scenic route of the two.

So what do you think?

Travel up Friday, a wee cycle on Saturday and a few beers at night :D

Are you in?

Dave it's the District TT Champs the following day, otherwise I would have been tempted.

Marmotte training starts after a short break following end of season. I have to lose 8 stone, increase power by 200 Watts and drop from 5' 11" to 5' 4" in time for July 2011.

Hey Andy,

If you find the secret to the above please let me know, it will certainly help the attempt at the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon in July 2011. :!:

Alpe D'Huez! What's wrong with Turriff!

Thinking about the short one at Ullapool. I would need lights to complete the 130 miles, even if I started at 6

I'm tempted by the 65 miler as the wee coast road is far better, probably one of the best in Europe IMO. Don't know why they don't rig up just one event taking in the coast road and doing 80-100 miles, that would be more popular.

Andy D your training plan is perfectly possible, i used to be a 16 stone 6ft wrestler, unfortunately though cycling is causing me to shrink by the year, i'm destined to look like the wee old guy in Benny Hill if you ever saw that, he was always surrounded by big breasted women, i'm a glass half full person!

Thanks to Fiona’s text I managed to record the Alp tri, watched it when I got home and kind of wished I hadn’t, even the swim looked hilly !!!  Still never mind plenty of time to worry about that next year.

Now back to Ullapool, I had heard that the 65 miler was a much better route, certainly more scenic that the 130. Mind you the last time I was up there you struggled to see anything through the driving rain.

This year will be completely different tail winds all the way, blue sky and a pleasant temp have been guaranteed. ;)

Anymore takers?

Places filling fast :)

I enjoyed watching the Triathletes trying to climb and descend 3 Alpine Cols on TT bikes... I saw at least 2 Cervelo P4's complete with TT bars... INSANE.

The whole thing looked totally brutal!

Haha Andy, if i go i'll take a saucer of lactate back for you! What's the winter training plan going to be? I'll probably ride into Ellon on the Winter Sunday runs and ride back to add an extra 1.5 hrs and try and do a longish Saturday as well instead of just the one weekend run, best laid schemes though.. hey the Ken Laidlaw would have shed you a few kilos right away!

On Ullapool, i've just been informed, we've to go to a wedding reception at the Waterside on the Friday, unless i reform and have just a couple of beers and drive up early on the Saturday, roads are great and quiet for a blast that time of day, just got to watch for deer at Black Bridge, missed a stag by a centimetre one night going at licks
