Hello everyone,

As a newbie cyclist, would the Sherrifston 10 miler be an ok race to enter?? What would be an expected time for the event?
I can pretty much do 10 miles in 30 mins easily enough....unless its all uphill....

I work away and miss quite a lot of the events, but would very much like to have a go....

Also looking to meet up with anybody local to Banff area for a ride...Hopefully make it down to Ellon on the 19th to meet up with you , if you have a meet on that day....

Hi Nick,

Yes its a decent course, fairly flat I think but you will get a great welcome up in Moray from any of the clubs up there.

Hi Malcolm,

Thanks, that is always good to know. Apart from turning up on the day ready to go(having registered before hand if required), do you need anything else such as certain insurance or anything??

The Sherrifston course is a lot flatter and 'faster' than most others within this area with great facilities at either of the two headquarters normally used. Turn up in good time to get parked, prep the bike, sign on, get changed, pin your number on and warm up along the adjacent road. Don't warm up by riding along the course! ;)
If you don't have a race license you will need to pay £10 for a day license. Also bring a couple pounds for the post-race tea and spread as you get a good feed afterwards! :D
The course itself is not too technical and all the corners can be taken flat out. The turn is always well marshaled and on an open stretch of road - turn around behind the marshal and make sure you are in a low gear for accelerating away again to start the return leg. The last few miles of the return leg can seem pretty hard but just aim for the kirk spire and think of the buffet.

I've entered as well as I'm up in the area that week, first open in around 4 1/2 years I think!

Hi Ian,

If you fancy meeting up at the event let me know... could do with someone to give me some insider knowledge from having raced before.... bit daunting going to the first one..... :)
