Formartine Cycling Strategy

Postby Colin A » Fri Sep 07, 2012 7:03 pm

Sorry if you have seen all this before but:

This is your chance to help form the Cycling strategy for your area for the next 5-10 years. This is an opportunity not to missed. Put your feelings forward about the cycling infrastructure in the area. Any plan will developed taking the input from these forums into consideration.

The group will be looking at; Commuting, Leisure cycling and Sport/Competition cycling

What do you think,

Do we need more cycle paths,

Do we need more cycle lockers,

Do we need cycle awareness training for some of the local businesses? (Lorry or bus companies?)

How do we get more people cycling,

Is there going to be a route from Ellon or Balmedie to Aberdeen when the new road goes in?

How do we promote the area to cycling tourists.

What do we need to get more kids cycling and into cycle sport?

What provision does the new academy have for cyclists?

Does the area need a BMX track?

How are tourist locations in the District linked for cyclists?

What can be done to improve the Buchan and Formartine line?

Are there lessons learned from Peterhead cycling town development?

How can we encourage local children to cycle to school?

This stage is a data gathering exercise. Armed with this information we can start to align and new developments in the area with the overall strategy.

All these questions and anything else you can think off can be raised at these forums.

Come along and make your voice and your ideas heard, the more the merrier. If no one turns up the council will assume no one is interested and nothing will improve.

Please pass this on to anyone else who may be interested in the development of cycling in the North east. Lets get some ideas on the table so we can start pressurising for better cycling in our area.

Are you interested in Cycling and Walking?

A small steering group has been set up to look at developing a cycling strategy for the Formartine area. The strategy will look at the provision of cycling facilities in three main areas; commuting, leisure cycling and competitive sports cycling. The Formartine Community Planning Group will be holding Community Ward Forums at venues across Formartine to look at developing the strategy and to hear your views.

This year’s public forums will allow you to hear about cycling developments across Formartine in an effort to improve our health and wellbeing and also to look at shaping future provision.

Community Planning Partners and local councillors will be in attendance and welcome any questions or concerns that you may have in your community.

The forums will be an opportunity to meet other community groups and individuals in your community while catching up over a cup of tea or coffee!

The Turriff one went ok. Not a lot of people there but there was some interesting debate and the area near the show ground looks like it could be quite good.

next Monday is the Ellon one at the Ythan centre. Please try to make it down to lobby for some increase in cycling facilities in the area.

And if you live in Ellon, why not cycle down. It would make a good point to the councillors.
